ABOUT VOCAL KIN

Vocal Kin, formerly known as New World Rhythm, is a community choir that rehearses in Woombye drawing singers from all over the Sunshine Coast and hinterland.

​Jeunae Rogers has been the Music Director of the choir since 2024. Vocal Kin is busy building up a new repertoire, exploring songs as a vital source of connection; songs of reckoning, renewal, reciprocity and resonance. 
​The arrangements often incorporate instrumentations that support the rich harmonies and evocative soundscapes.  The collection of songs Vocal Kin sings seek to draw participants and audience into a place of deep listening. 

In 2025 New World Rhythm decided that a name change was much needed to match our current and constantly developing repertoire. After much discussion and brainstorming within our choir family, out of the blue, our new name was gifted from the universe to one of our very long standing and beloved choir members, Miki Venn-Brown,  On 25th February the choir became Vocal Kin in name, matching the spirit our choir has always had as a choir family. New World Rhythm Incorporated is the administration body that manages Vocal Kin choir.

JEUNAE ROGERS

​Jeunae Rogers grew up on Kabi Kabi Country, Sunshine Coast, where a deep passion for music was cultivated from an early age.  She is an award-winning performer and has toured extensively as an original music artist, and vocal improviser in festivals nationally and internationally. 
For the last 10 years she has been deepening into the art of teaching voice, and song to humans of all ages.  Currently pursuing a Master of Creative Arts degree with a research focus on vocality as a vital technology for deepening connection to more-than-human worlds. Jeunae’s scholarly pursuits underscore her commitment to artistic exploration and innovation. 
In her capacity as a specialist voice instructor, Jeunae currently teaches at Noosa Pengari Steiner School, and Tutors in Performance at University of the Sunshine Coast.  She is the Creator and Director of The Memory Loom, through which she directs Ensembles, Workshops, and Vocal/Deep Listening classes. 
​Jeunae was introduced to the choir in 2023 as a guest Music Director and accepted the ongoing role in January 2024.
